The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that 14 of 21 lighting packages on small sports utility vehicles were insufficient, rated as "poor" in the performance category by the IIHS. Tens of cars and pickup trucks, both large and small, were rated as "poor," as well. Unfortunately, there is nothing consumers can do other than replace their weak, stock headlights themselves – and, if they so choose, to not purchase any of the problem brands.

To take care of your vehicle’s headlights, you should check the lenses, brightness, and alignment. What does this mean? If headlight lenses are cloudy or dirty, you should clean them with a specialized cleaner, which can be found in auto parts stores. Lamps that aren’t bright should be replaced. You can test for this by parking about five feet in front of a wall. After turning the lights on, if they don’t shine pure white, you need new bulbs. Confusing and tedious describes this lengthy process well. If you’d rather a professional check your lights on your vehicle, come see our team at Grainger Nissan soon.
