Take Care of Your Tires (And they will take care of you!)
Taking care of your tires will help you accomplish keeping your family safe, save you money, and help you get the most enjoyment out of your vehicle! Let’s explore some benefits from the 4 (four) tire operations that will get you the most benefit from your tires:
- Keeping the correct air pressure in your tires
- Rotating your tires regularly
- Balancing your wheels when needed
- A 4 (four) wheel alignment
The correct air pressure for your tires is listed in your owner’s manual and usually can be found on the inside of your driver’s door opening. Keeping the correct tire pressure prevents excessive and unnatural wear on the tires. Too much air makes the car ride on the center of the tire causing too much wear in the center of the tire. Too little air makes the car ride on the outside edges of the tire causing too much wear on the edges. The correct amount of air gives you an even wear pattern on the tire. Plus, using the entire surface of the tire instead of just the center or edges allows the tire to grip the road better, making your car more stable and easier to control making it safer, and helps your tires last longer.
Rotating your tires when you change your oil, or at least at every other oil change, ensures that your tires will wear at the same rate and last longer. The rotation costs a little more, but you will more than get your money back by extending the life of the tires.
Balancing your wheels will be done whenever you are experiencing an irregular noticeable vibration as you are driving that gets worse the faster you go. Driving with unbalanced wheels causes vibration issues that only get worse with time and will significantly reduce the life of your tires. Your service advisor will let you know when balancing is necessary.
A 4 (four) wheel alignment may be required when you buy new tires or if you experience the vehicle pulling in one direction or another. Your service advisor will let you know when an alignment is required.
